Lox Bagel-Inspired Avocado Toast

Enjoy a nutrient and energy-dense breakfast that is ready in minutes!

Looking for a flavorful and nutritious breakfast that is quick and simple to make? Look no further because these smoked salmon avocado toasts are packed with umami flavors and nutrients that provide long-lasting energy and are beneficial for overall health. I had a bit of fun creating these toasts making them look more artistic. That’s the fun part of creating homemade food… plus the fact that homemade food costs a fraction of restaurant food!

If you enjoy lox bagel, you’ll definitely enjoy this toast since the flavors are inspired by the classic New York sandwich. The combination of warm, toasted bread with cream cheese, smoked salmon, avocado, capers, and bagel seasoning is just divine! The toasts are great for a solo breakfast or for social gatherings. Simply multiply the recipe by the amount you need. Before we dive into the recipe, I do want to quickly introduce the ideal ingredients for this recipe.

Bread: Select a low fat, rustic, artisan bread such as Italian, French country bread, or sourdough. Try not to use commercial sandwich bread, brioche, croissants, or other breads with higher fat content. The toppings are rich so we do not want the bread to be overly rich as well.

Smoked salmon: Any smoked salmon will work for this recipe. For example, you may use Nova, gravlax, and Smoked Scottish Salmon.

Bagel seasoning: A bagel seasoning blend adds the finishing touches to these toasts. Bagel seasoning is a flavorful blend of white sesame seeds, salt, poppy seeds, dehydrated onions, garlic, onion, and occasionally some other ingredients. You can purchase pre-made bagel seasoning for around $4-5 and it’s a great purchase due to its versatility. It also lasts a long time!

Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast

yield: 1 large toast

total cook time: 5 min.

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice rustic bread (such as Italian, French, or sourdough)
  • 14 g. or 1 tbsp. cream cheese, softened
  • 40 g. or 1/4 large avocado, sliced
  • 28 g. or 1 oz. smoked salmon, thinly sliced
  • 3 g. or 1 tsp. capers (I use plenty since I love them!)
  • 1 g. or 1/4 tsp. bagel seasoning

Directions:

  1. Lightly toast the bread.
  2. Spread cream cheese on the slice of bread. Add the avocado slices to one half of the toast.
  3. Place smoked salmon next to the avocado on each toast.
  4. Top the toast with capers.
  5. Sprinkle bagel seasoning on the top of the toast.

The toasts are ready to be eaten! For presentation purposes, I put the avocado and salmon separately on the toast, but once you eat them, you may choose to put the avocado and salmon together.
